City receives homeless assistance grant

The Quincy/Weymouth Continuum of Care has been awarded $3.35 million from the federal government to help provide homeless assistance to hundreds of families in the area. Administered by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, Quincy Planning Director Dennis Harrington said money has been given to the city annually for decades, and is essential. “Over 200 individuals and 100 families are being housed in good, clean accommodations. . . . Plus, without this funding, many would be homeless.” According to a release, the award includes approximately $1.8 million given to three renewal projects under the “Shelter Plus Care” program, which is a rental assistance program through the Quincy Housing Authority.
