Preliminary school budget released


School Superintendent James Hayden on Tuesday released a preliminary fiscal 2014 budget of about $37.5 million for the town’s public schools. The $2 million increase from the expenditures for this fiscal year, which ends June 30, would slightly increase the salaries of teachers, administration, and custodial staff, but cut building maintenance, equipment repair, and the salaries of auxiliary school nurses. The School Committee will hold a budget hearing Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the Savage Center to get feedback from the public. A copy of the proposed budget is available at
