Renovated school offices to open

Norton High School’s principal, nurse, and guidance staff are scheduled to move into their renovated offices Monday as part of the school’s addition and renovation project, building committee Chairman Kevin O’Neil said. The first phase of the $34 million project added a cafeteria and science laboratories, which opened in February. The labs are to be used as classrooms while extensive renovations are made to the older part of the building. In the next phase, scheduled to last into June, the former administrative area will be converted into classrooms. Renovated areas will look “basically brand new,” O’Neil said. Change orders during construction have not exceeded the contingency fund, O’Neil said, and the town intends to go forward with optional items, such as an overhang at the main entrance that will help the old building match the new and be a shelter from the weather.
