Though often overlooked by historians, several women played major roles in King Philip’s War, a battle between Colonists and Native Americans in the 17th century, according to author Edward Lodi, whose latest book is “Women in King Philip’s War.” He will present a free talk on the topic Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Lakeville Public Library, the library announced in a press release. Included will be discussion of Awashonks of the Sakonnets, Weetamoo of the Pocassets, and Quaiapen of the Narragansetts, who along with King Philip, whose Native American name was Metacomet, rose up against the English. The event is the first in a series of free cultural presentations this year at the library.
