Cleanup to target highway ramps

The town’s annual cleanup is scheduled for May 11 from 9 a.m. to noon, with a twist this year of students from Tabor Academy doing a pre-cleanup on May 1 as part of a community-service project. And for the third year, the cleanup is teaming up with Gifts to Give from New Bedford, which will collect used children’s clothing, toys, and books for families in need, said Tinker Saltonstall, who has organized the event for more than 20 years. The annual cleanup, which has a couple hundred volunteers spreading through town picking up roadside debris, will include the on and off ramps of Route 195, she said, with police on hand for safety. “You look at the highway ramps and it’s despicable the way people throw trash there,” she said. “But this is good for the community, it gets many people involved who care about their town.” For more information, call Saltonstall at 508-748-0160.
