East Bridgewater

New owner for movie theaters

Selectmen Monday approved a transfer of licenses for the East Bridgewater Cinema 6 on Bedford Street to a company that owns two other theaters, paving the way for the new owners to upgrade the equipment and keep the theaters open. Bret Hardy, co-owner of South Shore Cinemas, which runs the Cameo Theatre in South Weymouth and the Mill Wharf Cinema in Scituate Harbor, said his company is investing in digital projection equipment and will start ripping out the old equipment as soon as the transfer was official. “I think we’ll have a soft opening at first and then invite the public in for a free show just to see what the new equipment looks like,” said Hardy. Hardy said he expects to keep ticket prices the same while lowering concession prices.
