Town library gets grant

The town’s Joseph Plumb Memorial Library received a $3,000 grant from the A.D. Makepeace Neighborhood Fund to help with the library’s basement renovation, including making the bathroom more accessible to people with disabilities, said library director Gail Roberts. The renovation will also include making space for programs and meetings and installing an elevator, she said. About $49,000 has been raised through grants and donations, and $25,000 was approved by Town Meeting voters. The library sees about 23,000 patrons a year and is part of the Sails Library Network, Roberts said. Other town groups getting grants from the Makepeace fund were the Rochester Conservation Commission, $5,000 for the Doggetts Brook Recreational Area Education and Improvement Project; $1,000 for the Wildlands Trust to enhance public access at the Stephen C.L. Delano Memorial Forest; and $900 for the Rochester Land Trust to build six information kiosks on trust properties.
