Lemonade stands for fireworks

The town is calling on its children, and everyone else, to help raise money for the July 3 fireworks show. Youngsters are encouraged to run lemonade stands this month and donate the proceeds to the fireworks, according to Aicha Kelley, program coordinator for the Walpole Recreation Department. “We’re also taking donations at the Recreation Department. We have less than a month to make $15,000” toward the approximately $28,000 cost, she said. This is the 52d year that Walpole will celebrate the night before July 4 with fireworks launched from Morgan Field, a parade, music, and barbecue, she said. “We’ve run into [a cash shortage] for the past four years, and we always come up with the money. But this is the year I’m the most concerned. It’s a great tradition; we want to keep it,” she said. Anyone interested in making a donation can contact Kelley at 508-660-6371.
