Outdoor drinking at VFW

The town has approved a request by John F. Glass Jr. VFW Post 2188 to add a patio and horseshoe-playing area on the Station Street property. In order to allow the service of alcohol at the new outdoor facility, officials imposed restrictions from both the town’s Zoning Board of Appeals and the state Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission. They require screening off the area of the property facing Southwick Street, keeping usage to the hours from sunrise to an hour before sunset, ensuring noise levels aren’t offensive to neighbors, and limiting attendance to 60 people outside and 150 people inside the post at the bar. Security cameras will also monitor the patio area and surrounding land.
