Community gardens to open

Community gardens will open around the city on Monday after an official 4 p.m. ceremony at the Boys & Girls Club of Brockton, 233 Warren Ave. Off-street parking is available. Brockton officials launched the community garden program last spring in collaboration with the state Department of Public Health’s Mass in Motion initiative, the city’s public schools, and a number of local agencies and organizations. “Community gardens are a wonderful asset to our city,” said Mayor Linda M. Balzotti. “They add to the aesthetics of our neighborhoods, they bring together and engage residents in our city, and they promote healthy living. They’re really a great thing all around.” For more information, contact Mass in Motion Community Planner Jana Linhart at 508-897-6809.
