The town is reminding residents that Cranberry Cove, Hanson’s public beach on Maquan Pond, is opening on Tuesday. Beach hours will be noon to 7 p.m. each day. Cranberry Cove is part of Camp Kiwanee, the 64-acre town-owned camp off Route 58 that also includes the function hall, Needles Lodge, and rustic cabins. The beach is open only to Hanson residents who purchase a pass. Any residents who did not purchase a pass on Cove Kick-off Day, June 8, can do so at the beach during the hours it is open. Those who were not able to register at the Kick-off Day for swimming lessons or the swimming team can do so by e-mailing the new beach director, Paige Cameron at cranberrycove@campkiwanee.com.In preparation for the season, the Recreation Department has been busy making improvements to the facility, according to Jim Flanagan, the head caretaker at Camp Kiwanee. Included are renovations to the dock, which were set to be completed this past Friday.
