New town manager settling in

Other than trying to remember to say “of Abington” instead of “of Carver” when identifying himself, Town Manager Richard LaFond said his adjustment to being back in town is going well. “So far, so good,” he said toward the end of his first week. His first day, June 10, was the day of Town Meeting, which wrapped up by around 9:30 p.m. “I’d like to take complete credit for that,” he joked. LaFond returned to Abington after 17 years as town administrator in Carver. He served as executive secretary for Abington for two years before that. LaFond, who lives with his family in Bridgewater, will make a base salary of $140,000 a year, with additional money for traveling and use of his car and phone.
