There will be a Special Town Meeting held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Avon Middle High School to vote on balancing the fiscal 2014 budget. Town Meeting voted at its regular meeting May 7 to add $320,000 to the proposed $19.8 million budget to enable the eight-person Fire Department to hire four more firefighters. As a result, the budget must be readjusted, according to Town Administrator Michael McCue. In effect, the Special Town Meeting will be asked to reverse the earlier vote to add money to the Fire Department. The meeting also will vote again on imposing a year-long moratorium on medical marijuana facilities. The May Town Meeting approved the measure on a voice vote, but it needed a two-thirds counted vote, according to Town Clerk Jean Kopke.
