Water balloon fight

A popular event from Pembroke’s 300th anniversary celebration last year is back for an encore. This Tuesday, the last day of school in town, residents are invited to take part in “The Largest Water Balloon Fight in Pembroke,” in the field behind the Community Center. Participants can sign in starting at 3 p.m., with the fight set for 3:30 p.m. When the event was first held on June 15, 2012, about 325 children took part, tossing about 6,000 water balloons in about 10 minutes. Organizers said that due to the popularity of the event, they decided to bring it back. Unlike last year, residents this year are asked to bring their own balloons; the event is also open to all ages. The field will be broken down by age groups. There is a $3 suggested donation, with the proceeds to benefit the Pembroke tree lighting event in December. The balloon fight is sponsored by Real Estate Rocks, a local real estate firm.
