Conservation restriction upheld

Selectmen have voted to support the first part of a phased conservation restriction that in its initial phase will protect 30 of 300 acres on Pine Street that are owned by the Wankinquoah Rod & Gun Club. The land runs through the Weweantic River watershed and is considered by the state to be a critical natural landscape. The restriction is to be jointly held by the town’s Conservation Commission and the Buzzards Bay Coalition, and bans building and developing, mining, excavating, dumping, and destruction of trees, grass, or other vegetation. Maintenance, the marking of trails, and similar activities are allowed, officials said.
