Informational meeting on Raynham slot parlor plan

The town is inviting residents to a July 9 informational forum on the proposed slot machine parlor at Raynham Park, in advance of the Aug. 13 special election on whether residents support the plan. The forum will feature a presentation by B&S Consulting Services, which performed a study for the town on the potential impact of the slots parlor. Selectmen on June 11 unanimously approved a host agreement with the track owner, Raynham Park LLC, regarding the proposal, and the forum will focus on details of the agreement. It follows two previous forums in which selectmen received feedback that they used in developing the host agreement. George Carney, the owner of Raynham Park, and his partner, Greenwood Racing, have proposed a 175,000-square-foot building, entertainment venue, retail stores, and restaurants, with up to 1,250 slot machines. The forum begins at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall meeting room.
