Raising funds to honor veterans

New England Warrior, a nonprofit organization that supports members of the armed forces and military veterans, is raising funds to place wreaths on 600 graves at the Wendell and Union cemeteries in Holbrook, and more than 900 graves in the veterans’ sections of the Melrose Cemetery in Brockton next Christmas season. As part of the campaign, the group will hold the Tombstone 5K Run and Walk at D.W. Field Park in Brockton on Nov. 2. New England Warrior needs to raise $22,500 to cover the costs of the wreaths and organizing the road race, according to Dwight Nelson, a Holbrook resident and Marine veteran who is president of the organization. The program is part of a nationwide Wreaths Across America campaign, which tries to decorate all US veterans’ graves each year. For more information, contact Nelson at 781-767-5589 or dwight.nelson@newenglandwarrior.org.
