Cape Flyer extends service

The resurrected CapeFLYER commuter train to Cape Cod has been so popular this summer that it will be extended through Columbus Day weekend in October. Several transportation agencies announced that the weekend rail service to the Cape has attracted 11,031 customers from Memorial Day weekend through Aug. 11. Governor Deval Patrick said that “by working together,” the partnership of agencies has provided cost-effective and enjoyable travel to the Cape for thousands of people. Local officials, though, have been less than pleased to be out of the loop, having learned of the new service through reporters in the spring, as they did last week about the service extension. That should be no surprise, said Middleborough Town Manager Charles Cristello, since “their communications throughout this project have been abysmal.”
