Family saved from eviction

Volunteers’ efforts to keep a disabled former town employee and his family in their foreclosed Spring Street home appear to have succeeded. A new posting on the Facebook page “Save John and Julienne Hazeldine From Home Eviction” said a deal has been reached between Direct Federal Credit Union, which bought the home at auction last fall, and Boston Community Capital, which buys foreclosed properties and sells them back to their owners. Part of the deal requires significant structural repairs and installation of a new septic system. Organizers of the assistance effort have raised $43,000 since Jan. 6, and several contractors have offered to perform work for free, or at cost. The agreement is to be signed on Tuesday, with closing a month after the septic system is approved by the Board of Health. John Hazeldine is the town’s former animal control officer and was forced to retire several years ago after a stroke.
