Tennis courts to open soon

The surfacing of new tennis, basketball, and multiuse courts is expected to be completed at Peter Igo Park in mid- to late September, and the courts will open shortly after that, according to Bud Duksta, a volunteer with the Peter Igo Park Initiative. Plans call for three regulation tennis courts and a youth court. They will be accessible to people with disabilities, and Duksta said he and other tennis instructors plan to be certified for teaching wheelchair tennis. The park will also have pull-up bars and other fitness stations. Duksta said the facility is similar to what might be available on a college campus. The nearly $400,000 renovation has been supported by $240,000 from the Community Preservation Committee, donations from residents and businesses, and a grant from the United States Tennis Association. The Marshfield Tennis Club, of which Duksta is a member, is spearheading the project.
