Boch donation to help improve Ellis Pond

Upgrading the dam at Ellis Pond and possibly building a floating dock for the new canoe launch are ways that the Conservation Commission plans to use the $2,500 it received from the Andrew and Ernest J. Boch Memorial Fund this year. Al Goetz, conservation agent, said the dam needs a measuring device to help adjust water flow and an irrigation system to improve the grass. He said the projects would help make Ellis Pond, the only large body of water that is entirely in Norwood, more attractive to residents, who like to sit or fish there. The Conservation Commission was one of 39 groups to share in the $30,500 donated to the town this year by Ernie Boch Jr., who has kept up a tradition begun by his father. Selectmen also divvied up the money to such organizations as the Ecumenical Food Pantry, $3,000; Concerts on the Common, $2,000; American Legion Baseball (sponsor state final), $2,000; and the Norwood Sportsmen’s Association, $1,500.
