Weymouth

Candidates’ night for District One

The North Weymouth Civic Association will hold a candidates “meet and greet” Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. in the Whipple Senior Center. All five candidates for the District One seat on the Town Council have agreed to attend, according to association President Geoff Potter. Dominic Giannone III, Kevin Harris, Becky Haugh, Angel Montanez Jr., and Victor Papp III, will face off in a Sept. 17 preliminary election, with the top two vote-getters moving on to the general election Nov. 5. Each candidate can speak for five minutes, then mingle with the audience to answer questions, Potter said. Issues likely to pop up include the deteriorating sea walls and the Fore River Bridge replacement, he said. The association has held candidate nights since 1971, and “we’d be thrilled if we got a couple of hundred people” to attend, Potter said.
