Corridor project eligible for aid

Norton’s plan to improve the East Main Street corridor has been deemed eligible for federal highway aid, a determination that brings the plan a step closer to reality. The project would involve repaving the road and installing sidewalks along East Main Street (Route 123) from the intersection with Elm and Pine streets to Interstate 495. It would also include the relocation of utility lines. The next step is to have the Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District include the project on the transportation funding list for this region. If the project goes forward, federal and state dollars would cover the full $4 million construction cost. The town would be responsible for the cost of design.
