Auditions for children’s chorus

Calling them “simple, fun auditions,” South Coast Children’s Chorus director Leslie Piper said tryouts will be held through the end of September at St. Gabriel’s Church. The chorus performs its own concerts in the winter and spring, and with the Sippican Choral Society, the South Hadley Children’s Chorus, and at the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra’s holiday pops concert. The SouthCoast chorus has three divisions: touring chorus, for children in grades six through 12; concert chorus, for grades three to six; and prep chorus, for kindergarten to grade 2 (no audition is required for the prep chorus). “Our mission is to provide young singers with a joyful, educational choral experience,” she said, “helping them to develop musicianship, responsibility, teamwork, and a passion for excellence in all they do.” For information or to schedule an audition, e-mail Piper at
