New building inspector

Mary Catherine McNeil, who most recently served as building commissioner in Seekonk, is expected to begin her new job as Freetown’s building inspector on Monday. McNeil, a resident of Carver, was chosen from a field of about 20 applicants. “She has a great deal of experience and integrity and I think she will do a great job here,” said Town Administrator Richard Brown. McNeil replaces Paul Bourgeois, who left the position in late June. Selectmen voted recently to release the findings of a three-month investigation into Bourgeois’s conduct as a town employee. The inquiry was prompted by numerous complaints from residents and business owners. The report, which officials say shows that there was no criminal activity, will be released in the next week or two.
