Bridgewater

Seeking bids for historic house

The town is seeking bids to purchase the Keith Homestead, a historic house owned by the town. The homestead on Lakeside Drive is the sole residential structure on a property that the town purchased on Lake Nippenicket several years ago to prevent further development of the site. The sale of the house and 2.7 surrounding acres follows the town’s plan when it purchased the overall site, according to Town Manager Michael Dutton. He said the town’s request for bids stipulates that the property not be demolished. Furthermore, preservation restrictions will limit changes the future owner can make to the house, he said, and zoning rules would require the house to remain a single-family home. The town set a minimum bid of $299,000 for the property. Bids are due Sept. 30.
