Increased fees for parking violations

Canton residents will have to pay more for parking violations starting next month. Police Chief Kenneth Berkowitz presented selectmen with increased fines for 15 violations, including parking more than one foot from the curb, parking in the wrong direction, and parking that impedes snow removal. Most of the fines went up from $15 to $25, while parking within 10 feet of a hydrant, impeding snow removal, and fire lane violations were increased to $50. Selectmen unanimously approved the fine hikes at a meeting Tuesday and encouraged Berkowitz to look into increasing the impeding snow removal fine. The new fines take effect Dec. 1.
