Medical marijuana, solar proposals

Zoning proposals relating to medical marijuana and solar energy projects will be the focus of public hearings at the Planning Board’s meeting this Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall. The medical marijuana measure would allow dispensaries selling the drug to locate in the same area that the town has designated its adult entertainment district, which is on the east side of Route 3, according to Town Administrator Edwin Thorne. The facilities would also have to be at least 1,000 feet from schools or other areas where children congregate. The town has a temporary moratorium on the dispensaries. The solar bylaw was motivated partly by a desire to encourage solar-energy projects, particularly on town-owned land, Thorne said. Both proposals are on the warrant of the Nov. 12 special Town Meeting.
