Mother charged with child abuse

A Freetown woman has been arrested for allegedly abusing her 7-month-old son, according to Police Chief Carlton Abbott Jr. Meaghan Vogel, 33, was charged on Oct. 19 with assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon and reckless endangerment of a child, according to a press release issued by Abbott. Vogel, who was arraigned in Fall River District Court on Monday, is being held at the Bristol County House of Correction in North Dartmouth. Bail was set at $5,000 prior to the arraignment, but was revoked during the court proceeding due to a prior incident on Sept. 2 in which she was arrested on charges that include assault and battery, said an official with the Fall River District Court’s clerk’s office. A pretrial hearing on both arrests is scheduled for Nov. 8. According to Abbott, Vogel’s husband took the baby to Tobey Hospital  in Wareham, where he was treated for injuries to his face and body and released to the state Department of Children and Families.
