Regional coastal group re-start

Marshfield residents interested in coastal policy are trying to revive a regional organization that began last year, but fizzled after a few meetings. Joe Rossi, chairman of the Marshfield Citizens Coastal Coalition, said a multicommunity coalition in southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island may now be viable because of widespread concern about new federal flood maps. The proposed maps have added thousands of homes to high-risk flood zones and could force many homeowners to buy flood insurance for the first time; others will pay higher premiums for existing policies. Rossi said the Marshfield group filed an appeal with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and will begin to focus on legislative advocacy, something a regional coalition could work on as well.
