Town meeting approves social host law, medical marijuana zoning

Town Meeting lasted past midnight last Monday, approving measures ranging from new zoning rules to allow medical marijuana dispensaries to repairing the Turner Pond dam. Town Meeting also endorsed a local “social host” bylaw, making it a civil offense, with stiff financial penalties, for adults who allow minors to drink or take drugs at parties. Medical marijuana facilities would be allowed in industrial zones but could not be located within 500 feet of a school, religious institution, home, day care site, playground, park, recreation or youth center, or any “established facility in which children commonly congregate.” Massachusetts voters approved the use of medical marijuana about a year ago.
