Update on town bike path

The Friends of the Mattapoisett Bike Path will update its progress during Town Meeting Nov. 18, in hopes of launching a capital campaign next year, said Bonne DeSousa, chairwoman of the group’s bike path committee. The first mile of the path was completed four years ago and connects to four miles in adjacent Fairhaven, she said. In the future, with the addition of another mile, the path will connect to Mattapoisett Village. This Thursday at 6 p.m., there is a “Bike Friendly Mattapoisett” meeting at the Free Public Library. The group will discuss safe bicycling and documentation of problem areas, she said. “We’re trying to get people’s attention on things we can do now that aren’t depending on completing the bike path, including getting more organized bike rides so people can go out more frequently,” she said in an interview. For information, contact DeSousa at 508-951-2406.
