Town approves more funding for water litigation

Hingham officials have appropriated an additional $150,000 for the Water Company Acquisition Feasibility Study Committee to help pay for ongoing litigation related to the purchase of infrastructure from Aquarion Water Co. A previous Town Meeting had already appropriated $320,000 for this purpose. “The litigation is moving much faster than we had anticipated when we left Town Meeting last year,” said Town Administrator Ted Alexiades. “Money that we have to process and pay our expert witnesses and pay our attorneys to move through to determine what a purchase price would be . . . is going to require more accelerated funding.” Alexiades said the additional money is in line with what town officials anticipated. More money will probably be requested at a future Town Meeting to fund a trial portion of litigation, he said.
