Town auctioning off land

The town is scheduled to auction off a dozen parcels of land at 11 a.m. Friday at the Mattapoisett Free Public Library on Barstow Street. The town has owned a variety of mostly empty lots for years and has held land sales over the past two years to “get them back onto the tax rolls,” Brenda A. Herbeck, Mattapoisett’s treasurer and tax collector, said in a phone interview. Those sales have netted the town approximately $150,000, she said. The parcels include residentially zoned lots on Maple Lane, Brandt Island Road, Parker Street, North Street, Appaloosa Lane, and Randall Road, and commercial properties on Pierce Street and Fairhaven Road, according to the town’s website. The auction will be run by Boston-based Daniel J. Flynn Co. For information, e-mail
