Foxborough High School’s Warriors will play their first home football game on the newly named Jack Martinelli Field – named in honor of the program’s longtime coach.

Martinelli is in his 36th season as head of the Foxborough High School football team, which he has led to four Super Bowl divisional titles. He was named to the Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2011.

At a ceremony in late August, former players lauded Martinelli as a coach, mentor, and person.

Martinelli expressed his thanks for the honor. “While the humbling and incredible honor is personal, it is, and will always remain, the culmination of teamwork, hard-working assistant coaches, some 3,100 tough Foxborough kids, a very supportive administration and community and family,” he said.

In this season’s first home game on Sept. 15, the Warriors will face King Philip Regional High School.
