A panel of local female politicians will share their experiences in campaigning, fund-raising, winning, losing, and governing in an effort to get more women involved in government at all levels.
“An Evening with Milton Women in Politics” is sponsored by Milton Persists! -- a group that formed in January after the Women’s March in Boston to “harness the post-election energy to make real changes in government at every level” -- and will be held on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. at Cunningham Hall, 77 Edge Hill Road in Milton.
“We are hoping that this conversation with the panelists will encourage other progressive women to run for town positions in Milton and also at the state and national levels,” said spokeswoman Shelby Larsson. Women also will be urged to support other like-minded candidates and seek appointment to local committees.
She noted that the 2018 town election is a unique opportunity for new candidates, as the Board of Selectmen will expand from three to five members.
The forum is open to everyone, including men. Scheduled participants include Milton Planning Board members Denny Swenson and Cheryl Tougias; state Senate candidate and Town Meeting member Nora Harrington; former selectwoman Kathy Fagan; and newly elected library trustee Sindu Meier.Johanna Seltz can be reached at email@example.com.
