Plympton administrator search nets 35 applicants

About 35 people have applied to be Plympton’s first town administrator, and officials are hoping to find the right person for the job by the end of October.

“I was very pleased with the response,” said Bernard Lynch of Community Paradigm Associates LLC, the search firm hired by the town. Lynch said the market is competitive now for this type of post, which is expected to pay roughly $100,000.

Lynch was set to meet with a local committee to begin reviewing the applications on Sept. 27, and hopes to first reduce the field of candidates to about 15 people.

“This is the first town administrator for the town. It’s important to get the right person,” he said.

Plympton voted to move to a full-time administrator after first adding a town coordinator, agreeing that additional oversight was needed to deal with the growth in the town of 2,800 people.

Selectman John Traynor Jr. said the search company and the seven-person Standing Committee will help to narrow the field down to three or so people, from which the selectmen will make a final choice.

“We hope to accomplish this by the end of October, with an offer to be made shortly thereafter,” Traynor said.
