Ideas sought for open space plan

Rockland residents are invited to help the town plan the future of its green spaces and recreational facilities.

Town officials are in the midst of preparing an update to its Open Space and Recreation Plan, and as part of that effort they are holding a public forum on Thursday, Oct. 19, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the senior center, 317 Plain St.

The Metropolitan Area Planning Council, which is assisting the town with the planning effort, will facilitate the meeting.

The plan is intended as a guide to the town on how to manage and improve its open space and recreational assets. Having an up-to-date plan is needed for a community to be eligible for certain state grants.

Rockland last updated its plan in 2005.

The forum, open to all, will provide attendees with more information on the project and offer them an opportunity to provide their input into what should be included in the document.
