The Hanover Board of Selectmen recently named assistant town manager Anthony Marino to serve as acting town manager.
Marino, who is also Hanover’s director of community services, will hold the acting town manager’s post while the board searches for a new permanent town manager.
Troy Clarkson, who had been town manager since April 2012, concluded his employment with the town on Nov. 3 through a mutual agreement between him and the board that was announced by Clarkson and selectmen on Oct. 31. The agreement came after selectmen on a 3-2 vote on Sept. 5 decided not to renew Clarkson’s contract when it expired next April.
The board is in the process of hiring a search firm to assist in the selection of a new town manager.
Marino said he intends to apply for the permanent position.
Marino, a former Pembroke resident who now lives in Norwell, was a self-employed building contractor for about 10 years before he was hired by Hanover as its building commissioner in 2008.
In 2010, he was elevated to the newly-created post of director of community services, and three years later was given the additional title of assistant town manager.John Laidler can be reached at email@example.com.
