The town of Walpole is officially an anti-hate zone, with a resolution denouncing all hate groups now featured prominently on the town webpage and municipal buildings.
Town Meeting approved the resolution in October that denounced “totalitarian impulses, violence, xenophobic biases, and bigoted ideologies that are promoted by white nationalists and neo-Nazis, and all other hate groups.”
The resolution said the impetus for putting the town on the record was the neo-Nazi march in Charlottesville, Va., in August, in which a protester against the march was killed.
“The detestable message of hate professed by neo-Nazi and white nationalist organizations and all other hate groups” remain a threat to the values that Walpole stands for, the resolution said.
The Town Meeting vote included a requirement that the town clerk post the anti-hate resolution in all town-owned buildings and on the town firstname.lastname@example.org
