Memorial Day: The town of Abington is holding a series of events in observance of Memorial Day beginning Monday, May 28, at 7:30 a.m. The Memorial Day Parade begins on 10 a.m., in the Beaver Brook Elementary School parking lot. Jazz: The Open Book Coffee-house continues its live music series on Saturday, May 19, with Savoir Faire, featuring vocalist Les Sampou and guitarist Jim Gordon. The duo perform classic songs with a sultry take from artists like Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, and Peggy Lee. The coffee-house is in the Community Room at the Canton Public Library, 786 Washington St. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. and music starts at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10, $5 for students. Local history: Duxbury Free Library, at 77 Alden St., is holding an informal discussion panel for people interested in sharing their knowledge of Duxbury on Saturday, May 26, at 10:30 a.m. Topics will include local neighborhoods, how street names evolved, the Rev. History: Historian Christopher Daley retells the 1892 Lizzie Borden case at Pembroke Public Library, 142 Center St., on Tuesday, May 22, at 7 p.m. The talk will include discussion of the murders of Borden’s father and stepmother, the police investigation, suspicion of Lizzie and her conflicting stories, the grand jury hearings and trial, and various theories on the case. Public health: The Plymouth Area League of Women Voters hosts Nate Horwitz-Willis, the town’s public health director, on May 31 at 7 p.m. in Town Hall’s Great Hall. Horwitz-Willis will discuss building a robust local public health system and eliminating health stigmas. There will be a question and answer session.


Housing: Senior Celebration, a one-day free event for seniors focusing on lifestyle and health, will be held Tuesday, May 22, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m, at Lombardo’s, 6 Billings St. The event features seminars, health screenings, educational workshops, entertainment, and giveaways.
