Assessors see slight rise in taxes

At its most recent meeting, the Board of Selectmen heard a report from the Board of Assessors stating that in a reversal of the trend of the past several years, the increase in residential property taxes will be negligible for the current fiscal year. According to Bruce Murphy, chairman of the Board of Assessors, the average residential tax bill will rise by 1.05 percent, based on an increase in the tax rate from $15.21 to $15.37 per $1,000 of assessed value. The board said the reason for the small increase was the rise in the number and value of commercial properties developed in town over the past year.
