New rates nudge taxes higher

Town Administrator Keith Bergman announced earlier this month that selectmen have set this fiscal year’s property tax rates at $16.98 per $1,000 of assessed value for residential properties, and $27.23 per $1,000 for property in the town’s commercial, industrial, or personal category. For the town’s average residential property, with an assessed value of $366,412, the tax bill will increase by 4.06 percent over last year’s figure, to about $6,222; the tax bill for a commercial property assessed at $491,000 will increase by 5.79 percent, to about $13,370.
