State chips in to preserve Elmwood Farm

Officials in Hopkinton have received a $400,000 state grant to help preserve the historic Elmwood Farm, an 85-acre property off Ash Street. The grant is part of $3 million awarded to 13 municipalities for land conservation by the state Department of Energy and Environmental Affairs, according to an announcement on the program. The grant will help offset the $1.8 million that Town Meeting authorized to spend from Community Preservation Act funds, and will allow Hopkinton to preserve the land, with potential future uses including community-supported agriculture projects as well as protecting the aquifer for the town’s new well, according to announcement.
