Meet finalists for high school principal

The school district is inviting local parents and other community members to meet with the four finalists for the high school principal’s position in gatherings planned for Tuesday and Wednesday in the Arlington High media center. The finalists, announced last week, are Debra Heaton, acting principal of Marblehead High School; Matthew Janger, principal of Mount Desert Island High School in Bar Harbor, Maine; Shirley Lundberg, director of academics at Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School in Marlborough; and Matthew Poska, principal at the Briscoe Middle School in Beverly. The community meetings are part of the School Committee’s hiring process. On Tuesday, the school will host Poska from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., and Lundberg from 7:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. On Wednesday, the school will host Janger from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., and Heaton from 7:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. This is Arlington’s second effort to fill the principal’s job, which has been handled on an interim basis by Mary Villano since the retirement of Charles Skidmore in 2011.
