Wayland

Community reading program to focus on poetry

This year's communitywide reading program organized by the Wayland Free Public Library will focus on poetry. Former US poet laureate Robert Pinsky will open the series of events with a reading at 4 p.m. March 24 at Wayland Middle School. Pinsky, a professor at Boston University, is among several notable local poets who will be participating in Wayland Reads activities, with five events planned for April. The library is also asking residents to nominate works for its “Wayland’s Favorite Poem Project,’’ building on an effort launched by Pinsky shortly after he was first appointed as poet laureate in 1997. Titles can be submitted online at www.waylandlibrary.org.
