Hundreds of Lexington students and teachers were on hand to celebrate the final steel beam being hoisted and secured into the framework of the new Estabrook Elementary School. The new building is expected to open in the spring of next year. Voters last year approved a property tax increase that included about $40 million to replace the Estabrook School because of problems with a toxic chemical that was discovered in the fall of 2010.
