Steel frame in place for new Estabrook School

Hundreds of Lexington students and teachers were on hand to celebrate the final steel beam being hoisted and secured into the framework of the new Estabrook Elementary School. Students were able to sign the beam before it was lifted into place during a ceremony at the site on March 13, according to the Boston-based company building the school, Shawmut Design and Construction. The new building is expected to open in the spring of next year. Voters last year approved a property tax increase that included about $40 million to replace the Estabrook School because of problems with a toxic chemical that was discovered in the fall of 2010.
