Essays will decide scholarship winners

The Westborough Historical Society is sponsoring a new scholarship opportunity for graduating high school seniors. The Local Heritage Essay Contest asks students to submit an essay no longer than 500 words answering one of two questions: How does your knowledge of Westborough history enrich your life? Describe the importance or influence that a person, place, or event in local history has had on you; or, How does knowing about Westborough history help you understand American history? Discuss how a person, place, or event in local history was part of a larger social, economic, or political movement in the United States. The society will award two $1,000 scholarships, to a male and female student. Essays should be mailed to the Westborough Historical Society, 13 Parkman St., and must be received by April 22. Include a separate page with name, address, phone number, and e-mail address with the essay submission.
