Call to expand CPA levy on ballot

A petition campaign led by the Littleton Conservation Trust and Littleton Community Farm organizations has attained enough signatures to place a question on the May 11 annual town election ballot. The ballot question proposes extending the local Community Preservation Act program’s 1 percent property tax surcharge to include commercial and industrial properties, with the first $100,000 of value exempted. Currently, only residential properties are covered by the annual surcharge, which provides funds for affordable housing, recreation, open space, and historical preservation efforts. According to Town Administrator Keith Bergman, assessors have estimated that the change would generate an additional $65,000 per year.
