Police honor civilians, officers

At a recent awards ceremony, the Police Department honored civilians and officers for their contributions to public safety and welfare during the past year. Recipients of the department’s Civilian Service Citation were Daniel Carroll, who collaborated with the police force to collect food, water, and clothing for victims of Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey; and Jameson Rooney, who followed instructions delivered over the phone from the Bedford Emergency Communications Center to assist his mother during a medical emergency. Four officers received a Departmental Certificate of Commendation for outstanding and distinguished performance of police duty: Officer Jeffrey French was recognized for successfully confiscating about half a pound of marijuana and $2,300 in cash during a traffic stop; Officer Michael Sullivan arrested a resident with Oxycodone pills; and Sergeant Jeffrey Wardwell and Officer Richard Vitale were recognized for apprehending a combative individual wanted in a breaking and entering in Lexington. In addition, Officer Kristen Dineen received the Team Spirit Award, and Sergeant Patrick Towle, Sergeant Jeffrey Wardwell, Officer Thomas Devine, and Emergency Communications Officer Jeffrey Vinciulla were recognized for their participation on behalf of the North Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council in the response to the Boston Marathon bombing.
